Psalm 121 – Superman’s got Nothin’ on GOD

Psalm 121 (The Message)

A Pilgrim Song

1-2 I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains?
No, my strength comes from God,
who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

3-4 He won’t let you stumble,
your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.
Not on your life! Israel’s
Guardian will never doze or sleep.

5-6 God’s your Guardian,
right at your side to protect you—
Shielding you from sunstroke,
sheltering you from moonstroke.

7-8 God guards you from every evil,
he guards your very life.
He guards you when you leave and when you return,
he guards you now, he guards you always.

Well the title pretty much gives this one away, and I hope that most of my readers already know this but I’m going to say it anyway. God is there for you! I think that is awesome. I’m something of a Superman freak, and the thing I love about Superman is he always saves the day, and he always does it on his terms. You can’t budge the ‘Man of Steel’! But he does not exist there is no Superman to save the day, to keep us safe, to keep us from death and turmoil and pain. Which is a bummer because the idea of Superman is pretty awesome. God on the other hand is way more than Superman could ever hope to be. He is everywhere at once, he can see you and your neighbor and your dog too. ‘He sees you when your sleeping, He knows when your awake . . .’ ok that was corny sorry. He is basically your own personal super-hero. I know I’m sorry for those who were expecting something great and awesome and life changing but sometimes truth isn’t life changing. If you had no idea God is so awesomely powerful, then there is some life changing truth for you. Worship God!
